2.3 turbo vs 2.0 turbo

Hi i was wondering what engine is stronger the 2.0 turbo saab 9000 motor (B202) or the 2.3 saab 9000 motor (B234)? and i dont mean stronger as in HP but as in strength of the motor itself

what motor is better for tunning?

THANKS

My honest vote would actually be the 2.0 9000 over the 2.3 9000 and I have mothballed mine in that regard actually.

I say this because the long block doesn't have balancers, the pistons seem to be a heavier built and the cranks/cams are rumoured to be better material also. I don't know that the latter is true - but it has been said.

The trade off is that whereas you can use the Trionic control system much more granularly to deal with knock and fuelling if you have enough money - the old

2.0 has a limited ceiling - but doesn't cost as much to put more power through than the transmission can deal with.

Which brings up at least one thing that makes a mid-generation C900 a better choice for a really serious performance build - you can fit one of the original

4 speeds in the bay with a little nip and tuck if you can find one in good shape.

All this said, all 2.0 long blocks are at least 12+ years old by now and that means any load bearing surface inside will need some attention before you really start to put the stick to it.

I think the 2.0 might be stronger too and balance shafts are a NO NO when it comes to performance motors

the B202 turbo is a time tested performance motor

Well, I used to have a 2.3FPT, and now my wife has a 2.0LPT.

I can't imagine wanting much more power out of the 2.3 unless it was for track use.

I have no experience of the upgrades available for the 2.0LPT.....yet!
