9-3 TiD

My brother has one of these in the UK and I was pleasantly surprised by its performance. While I was there it blew its injector seals, however, which is a known problem with this GM engine, apparently.

Picked the car up today and love it.

Bit sluggish from a standstill, but at arround 60 mph it pulls well.

The best is the SID is telling me i am doing 56mpg.

much better than the toyota carina i traded in.

i have a 51 2001 9-3 tid se with 66000 now; got 17 inch alloys on it

problems:

getting the wheels off the rims when i had a puncture; AA man had to get a trolley jack, get under the car and use a BIG hammer HARD

there is a noticeable turbo lag - dont try to race people at lights :). took an x type 2L D jag out yesterday - was noticably smoother, quieter,faster and no lag.

oil - keep checking it; used 1L per 1400 miles until it got to

i can get 56 - if im doing 60mph, level ground, cruise on; motorway driving is typically 44 (has got better since 50k was about 38)

watch out for the bloody aerial - make sure the radio is off before you put anything large in the boot. i've destroyed two!

had a 95 before - 93 is much better drive though

forgot to say - watch out for tyre wear at the front - inside of the tyres seems to go quicker; mine is under contract hire with full maintenance so any sniff of a problem in it goes to the garage (very good dealership in cambridge) and they have adjusted everything but it still does it; getabout

just make sure that you have full AA or RAC cover!!!!

you will enjoy it; my first saab a 95, had a new gearbox at 4000 miles and again at 60000, starter problems, ignition problems, engine management problems, replacement battery - andmy 18 year old son did almost £6000 worth of damage to the underside - but i still got another saab!!
