900 door lock

Hello NG.

I have a 97 900. The lock on the drivers door is not too good. (sticks/wont turn) due to age/use, I guess.

Is it possible to swap it with either the passenger door mechanism, or the boot? as neither of these locks have seen much use. Or do I have to purchase a new mechanism from Saab?

Or, is there a neat and easy to fit remote locking system? I would consider this also.

Many thanks for any replies to my problem.

Ian, we had same problem. We got a local mobile mechanic out to remove and lubricate the lock. Cost us £40 for 1.5hrs labour. No problems since. Al

I would suspect it is not due to age, it is only a 1997. It could be due to use/water/dirt. A good cleaning and PROPER lubrication would help

- take it to a qualified technician. You also have another option - I believe you could easily have remote entry by adding a plugin module. Anyone have details on this?

I have a 1990 and 1993 900. I suspect the 1993 900 would be more likely to have the remote capability. P.S. The locks work fine.

Not the best stuff to use, graphite lubricant is.

However, when we had a few cold days over Xmas, when the car wasn't getting used as much, the already flaky/stiff wobbly lock froze several times and needed de-icer to open it, then it was stiffer and rattlier than ever. I too gave it a squirt of of WD40 to chase any water out of the lock, with any lube effect being a bonus.

As it happens, the lock is so smooth, and doesn't resist the key at all now (but only that key, not any key). I so I ahve a bonus, and some more time to find graphite lubricant for next time.
