9000 behaving strange

Hi,

I have a 1994 9000, 2.0l LPT CD. It has covered 98,000 miles. Recently it has started to run on only 3 cylinders, and then it will start behaving properly again. Very occasionally, it will loose all power very briefly on acceleration, just like the rev limiter has cut in, but this happens at 3000 rpm. After the brief loss of power, the car continues to accelerate normally.

Are these problems likely to be connected ? and any ideas what may be causing them ?

Many Thanks and Best Regards

Andrew

There's a very good chance it's the DI - common problem, easily (if expensively) fixed.

Hello Grunff,

Thank you for your very quick reply.

Just a couple of further Q's

1) Is it normal for a DI Cartridge to exhibit these intermittent faults before they finally die? or do they normally just die suddenly ? 2) Is it worth me finding a second hand unit? Do you have any ideas where I can get one new or used at a good price ?

Many Thanks and Very Best Regards

Andy

They don't call me Speedy for nothing...

Both failure modes are common - depends on what breaks inside the DI.

It's worth testing out the theory by borrowing a known good DI and trying it out first. While the DI is the likely culprit, there are other possibilities - a fueling problem could produce the same symptoms.

Where are you?

Hmm..don't know anyone I can recommend particularly near you. Maybe someone else will.

Most saab independents will be pleasant enough to lend you a DI to try out. You could take a look on yell for one near you?

Carlssons in leatherhead are worth a try, not far from you at all.

Forget the number off the top of my head but you can get it at saabcentral.com (and loads of other specialists too)
