Sounds more like ignition than fuel problems. If spraying some ether got it to start straight away, it's because the spark which was present wasn't enough to ignite the petrol, but was enough to ignite the ether.

Could be DI, could be plugs (how old, what condition?).

but how come it just does that when i didnt drive it for one day and only when its really cold too, could it be the battery causing too weak spark? the plugs have around 15.000km and i will post later how they look.

Yes, it could easily be a weak battery resulting in a weaker spark. But this is less likely with DI than it is with conventional ignition, because the coils deliver a much higher voltage anyway.

How does the engine turn over? Nice and quick? Turn on the healights while turning over. Do they dim significantly?

it turns over like it always used to, it didnt slow down after the first 2 tries either, i am getting around 10V while cranking what sounds okay to me... the lights dont really dim all that much, car was parked facing a concrete wall and you could surely notice something happening, but not the lights dimming all that much,.. .*grumble* im gonna check the plugs tonight, i promise :)

i just dont find time for that right now... too much work to do, i will post again when i get at it, first i have to fix the transmission mount... the upper engine mounts are already done. ill keep you all updated
