saab9000 timing chain

May 11, 2004 1 Replies

Watch out for noisy timing chain. My SAAB AERO had only 150,000 KM on the clock. One memorable summer day, doing 120 KPH on the highway it broke. Ended up with 4 bent valves and a complete head rebuild.

The technician thinks it is the single roler chain used in the 9000 2.3L engine (they use twin rollers on the old SAAB 900, mine has done over

400,000, still going good)

It normally gets quite noisey at idle before it goes south.
