The Hatchback

I'm about to trade my 97 900 SET for a 03 9.3 and I'm beginning to feel a little sentimental.....have any of you traded to the new body type and regretted it? The dealer explained to me over and over why Saab did away with the hatchback, but I still love the way my 97 looks..I just don't like the mounting repair bills....

You still might be able to find a new 2002 hatchback, though it is getting more rare. GM didn't sell a lot of the hatchbacks to make business sense in continuing to produce it, so it was decided to make the 9-3 a sedan only.

I hear that a hatch version is on the way, but have no idea if this is disinformation or distortions based upon the imminent Saaburu 9-2 or the controversial 9-3X, or something else entirely!

I traded in my 02 9-3SE for a 03 9-3 Aero ( in the US I guess that would be a 210 hp Vector) and didn't regret it for a second. It is - a lot - wider and the trunk is really big enough, except if you'd want to move some furniture on a regular basis ;-) The driving qualities are much better; besides more powerful it is a lot more stable in curves. I don't think you'll regret it; just make a testdrive and you'll see....

Have you considered the 9-5 Estate it is a logical upgrade from the old style 900 (ie level floor) and easy to reverse as you can see where the end of the car

I did the swap and I am very pleased with it.

I bought a 2002 hatch and I love it. Lots of space, distinctive, stylish also. The new 9-3 looks lovely, and I may get a convertible style someday, but I love my 2002 9-3 4 door hatchback!

I once transported a near complete Honda CB 750 motorcycle (without the engine fitted, that made it easier to load) in my '89 SAAB 9000 Hatchback. It fitted nicely beside the 70 liter LPG tank that was fitted on the right side in the luggage compartment.
