Timing Chains - I like the sound!

Just an opinion... I *like* the sound of a motor with a timing chain instead of a belt. Whoever decided that a motor sounded better without that little "whir" is a heathen and an abhorrence to automotive tradition!

When do you hear that sound?

Cheers!

All the Saabs I've listened to make it. It's not really obvious, just a more mechanical sound than those belt driven Japanese engines have.

You're sure that it's not the "forechains" you can hear? On the old generation 900, the gearbox is driven by three chains, and they make a "whir", following the rpm. in sound.

Cheers!

Do the 9000's have a timing chain?

Nope, I'm a NG guy. Do you have any Japanese cars in your driveway ? Listen to them... they just don't sound correct :-)

Yes unless it is the V6 model.
