Which year did this become available as an option in the US? Edmunds has it standard on the 2001 SE (didn't check the Viggen) but I can't find any mention it prior to that. Also, how much does it help (hinder) handling?

My 2000 9-3 (non SE) does not have it. Even as an option, I believe.
