the rear bumpercover might fit, but the front would require at least the headlights to come along with it. The hood is also different, but if the leading edge is at the same place, you won't need to change it.

Now that I've thought about it more, the fenders might have a different profile where they meet the lights. If so, you'd need those too. Then they won't match the doors and rear fenders. I mentioned the hood, but now I'm wondering whether the hood's profile is different where it meets the fenders at the front. I can't say any of this stuff for sure, except for the lights.

Wouldn't the 96 SL2 have had body colored bumpers? If so, it wouldn't look like a 2000, but you could at least have painted rather than gray/black bumpers by putting SL2 bumpers on your SL1.

I also wonder whether the rough black bumpers could be sanded and painted to match. Paint might not adhere well, though.
