1963 was when the cassette tape was invented over in Europe by Phillips, but it wasn't until 1967 or so when Becker started producing an integrated unit for Mercedes Benz.

I think it was Pontiac that introduced the first factory cassette deck for North America in 1971, but it still took forever to get mobile audiophiles away from their 8-tracks.

Looks like she didn't get to sit in it very long.....Note the order was written up in mid-July and "service for retail delivery 9/1". Hell, Miss Canada got to use a 1964 Daytona convertible for the full year she won the crown. Wonder if that car still survives...

Did anyone watch Wrecks to Riches on TLC the other night? They found a "Plain Jane", 6 cylinder, Ford Torino with 6900 miles on it, next thing you know it's in pieces on the shop floor. The car was an extremely nice survivor, it looked like it had never been rained on or spent a night outside the garage. They paid $12,000 for it, customized it and I didn't see what it sold for at auction. I'm all for customizing cars, but I felt bad that they had to use a definate collector piece to make a run of the mill hotrod.

Depends what year it was.....If it was a 73-76 Torino, ANYTHING is an improvement! Thus not a great loss.

On the other hand, if it was a rare 1970-1/2 Fairlane Falcon, then it would have been better left 'as found'.

I want to say it was a early model (late 60's???).

Hard to say what it was then...The "Torino" in the late '60's was an upscale version of the Fairlane which became the 'plain-jane' version of Ford's intermediate line. My mom had a plain-jane '69 door sedan. It wasn't even a 'Fairlane '500'; just a plain stripper 'Fairlane'. (Not that it was a 'bad' car in any way, it proved to be very reliable, and it was back in the days of the 5-year/50,000 mile warranty which was transferable. She bought it when it was a year and a half old, paid the $25 transfer fee and got the balance of the coverage until

1974). Ford phased out the Fairlane and Falcon name in mid-1970 with that one the labeled "Fairlane/Falcon". From '71 on, they were all called a "Torino". They got real ugly when those 5 mph bumpers appeared on the '73's.

A 'plain Jane' 6 cylinder Torino is a collector piece???? Only thing worse would be a hemi in a 'plain Jane' 6 cyl. Lark Jeff (Let go of the rage within Lee... It'll kill you dead too young if you hold it in...) Rice

Man, I'll bet that thing was longer than a w**re's dream!

Which side was missing a door?

Not! The New Yorker missing a door on Trailer Park Boys is waaaayyy longer!!

Remember the Fairlane/Torino was an 'Intermediate' size car; not 'full' size. The competition back then was GM's 'A' body Chevelle/Tempest/Cutlass/Skylark series and Chryco's Belvedere/Coronet line. In fact, the muscle car collectors out there who are partial to Fords favor 429 equipped Torino GT's/Cyclones over the full size Galaxie XL's/Mercury Maurader X100's.

IIRC Debbie had a Dual - Ghia in the late 50's (this car was popular with the "Rat Pack") and then in the early 60's a Facel - Vega (Lucille Ball and hubby Gary Morton, Dean Martin, and others had one too)...
