Does anyone know a source that sells new 6 volt AM-FM radios? I'm interested in sticking an AM-FM radio into my Champion. But I am not interested in rehabbing an old radio or having the existing guts switched to AM-FM. I'm thinking about an new radio unit that I can just add on and have tunes, Not finding any sources. Any leads or tips appreciated.

How inventive are you? And do you mind taking a brand-new unit apart? The new ones operate at a low voltage, and there is usually a transformer inside that cuts it from 12 volts to anywhere between 2 and 5 volts. I'd find out at what the operating voltage of the one you want to use is, and swap out the transformer.

The easiest way to do it is to purchase a voltage inverter. Radioshack used to handle them but I am sure that there is another source.

The easiest and cheapest way would be to hook up the radio 'backwards', but the dangers of course is the metal housing will now be "live" and must be isolated from any of the metal on the dash on the install. And the same will go for the antenna as well. As previously stated, one could use an invertor, if others work on the car and aren't aware of it.
