Used/New Gears ????

Anybody out there want to part with or trade a new or good used Ring & Pinion gear set for a 63 Avanti. I knew the car had a very low rear end in it the first time I drove it. Want to drive it not trailer it to Omaha in September. Has a 4.55 in it now and would like to put a 3.07 or 3.31. It has Twin Traction. This is the one that had the overdrive put in it before the previous owner. Of course the OD isn't too effective with that rear end ratio. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Dave Balek

Actually, you'll be going backwards. The 4.55 in OD is a effective

3.2, not a bad gear at all. A 3.07 would be about a 2.10 > Anybody out there want to part with or trade a new or good used Ring &

yeah, what he said. If you feel like it's winding a little too fast on the highway, you may want to consider a 4.11, 3.92 or 3.54 at the absolute least. A 3.31 might be OK, but you'll be kicking it out of OD to pass semis. A 3.07 would probably be ludicrous in OD.

I'd probably do a 4.11 or 3.92, myself. a 3.92 is about 2.75:1 in OD which is waaaaay taller than anything Stude ever offered from the factory.

As suggested in an earlier post, a ratio in the range of 3.40 - 3.50 is typically the best of both worlds. Tempestan
