2005 Forester Engine Check Light cont'd ...

Apr 27, 2008 4 Replies

OK we finally got our Forester to the dealer who read out the OBD codes and told us that the Engine Check Light is on due to a faulty Neutral Sensor ... the car is 5 speed manual ... does anyone know what this sensor does?

cheers!

Senses when the transmission is in neutral!

Yeah, perhaps it's the neutral safety switch. It could prevent the car from starting. OR, might allow it to start when in gear!

Probably not. Get a quote from a dealer and maybe a local mechanic or 2. Written quotes 'should' be within 10-15% (often by State law). Probably the dealer has a 'book rate' that they will charge without variance.
