Highway only
My wife's 97 OB Spot (Imprezza) with auto trans gets 29-33 mpg for straight highway driving. I'd guess that the stick could be 2-4 mpg more.
I think it should be 2-3 mpg less for a stick:
whereas for 5sp: 5th by 0.78 is 3.042
if I did my math correctly. I'm sure there are people in this group who can either pull the correct specs for 98 or correct my math if I used the right ratios after all, but miscalculated the ratio between the engine and the axle (or whatever is that being driven in a Sub).
A stick is NOT a means to save on gas. It is a way to have fun with your Sub. Or it was until some bright bulb lenthened 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears during the transition to the 2.5 liter engine.
