after market Cruise Control

Hi there, We're a two Forrester family. I have a 99 with lots of mileage and we just found a 98 with only 24K Miles on it that we got for my wife. The only challenge is that we take long drives to WV and Canada. My car has cruise control and hers doesn't.

Is there an "after market" for cruise control being added on for a 98 Subaru Forrester ? Is it better to be done at the dealership ? How much should I expect to pay ?

Thanks for the info. in advance.

Don't know about any dealership availability, but your dealership could probably answer that one ;-)

I installed a Sears DIY kit back in 87, on a Cherokee...took a couple of hours, wasn't particularly difficult, and worked great. The kit then cost maybe $75. Unless you're exceptionally un-mechanically inclined, adding cruise is a great DIY project!

I used to install aftermarket accessories including cruise. IMIO try

*really* hard to get the OEM cruise kit. I did for my 97 Impreza. Found it online for $35(google the part number). It took a couple hours to put in, plug and play. An aftermarket version is going to have you find and tap into the 'light blue wire from connector 7b at location x' and the like.

Plus if you read the experiences people have had with aftermarket cruise control kits they range from disposable to plain dangerous.

... a lot of Aussiesare having this kit installed into Forester's that were not supplied withfactory cruise control, as well as into Liberty's, B4's, etc... Best of all, the control looks like it's supposed to be there, unlike some of the stalk actuators.

I'd give the dealer a shot. Heck, they may even have one in the back they want to unload. I got lucky on my '97 and found it doing a google search.
