Dangerous 2004 Forester tires?

May 13, 2004 22 Replies

I had a set of those on my old Jeep. Really nice tires. They did seem to wear out fast though.

With only 5k miles on the car, I also wonder about *over* inflation.

There have been many reports of people receiving new Foresters with the tires over inflated. My 2003 Forester's tires were inflated to 47psi when I received them from the dealer. This is way above the recommended

29psi and even over the 44psi max pressure written on the sidewall. Apparently, they are shipped like this from the factory and the dealer is supposed to reduce the pressure when they deliver the car to the customer, but sometimes they forget.

So, if I were this guy, I'd check the pressure on the remaining tires.

It's common practice to overinflate a tire the first time air is put into it to "seat the bead". That's how it happens. Still no excuse for the dealer to let it go out the door that way.
