You guys are great! I'm usually skeptical about extended warranties on other items but started getting uneasy about my 3-year warranty expiring on my sub, although I haven't had any mechanical or other problems so far.
Thanks loads. elg

Has anyone ever wondered why a reliable car manufacturer like Subaru would offer one of the shortest factory warranties of any car maker? I believe that even most American cars now come 5yr 50-60k miles, and imports have for years! What is Subaru afraid of? I love my wrx, but 3yr/36k isn't a lot by modern standards...

The Matrix / Vibe is 3/36 as a Pontiac and 5/60 as a Toyota.
Figure that one out!

The Subaru website says powertrain is 5yr/60k miles.
By powertrain they mean Tranny and diff, right? Perhaps CV joints too? That doesn't mean engine, does it? I thought it was 3/36 for everything,
5/60 for rust and emmissions...Mike
They all pick the strategy that makes the greatest profit. Hyundai had a terrible reputation so they went to a 10yr/100K warranty. Toyota's standard warranty isn't very good, but they don't need to give a warranty away to sell their cars.

Engine is powertrain. Some emissions are 7/100 as per fed. gov.
Dealer fixed a leaky seal under my powertrain warranty on my '98 Forester. Only problem it had until damned PT Cruiser wrecked it 2 years ago. If I had paid for a warranty it would have been money down the drain. Frank
