Grinding noise during left hand turn.

All,

I have been hearing a grinding, metal to metal noise coming from the front of my '99 Outback 2.5H4. I only hear it at low speeds during a left hand turn. Even then, it doesn't happen during acceleration, only during light breaking or a coast. Could this be a wheel bearing or could it be the mysterious heat shield that suddenly stopped rattling?

BTW, I have 87K on it with no problems so far, runs like a champ.

Appreciate any help,

Chris

Sounds like the CV joint. Have you checked the boots for cracks or tears?

Check the brake disk guards. I drove over a toppled road sign one rainy night, and my car started making a weird grinding noise in right turns. The sheet metal that protects the left front disk had been bent inward, and rubbed against the disk whenever I made a turn.
