I'm thinking of getting one of those plastic hood deflectors for my 04 Forester. Has anyone had any experience with them? Good? Bad? Are they easy to install yourself? What kind of hardware is involved? I'm planning to drive this car for a long time and I'd really like to protect the hood from any further chipping.

Hi, Very easy to install. Will protect windshield as well.
how is it on the fuel economy?
Hi, May umprove actually how ever small amount it may be by improving aero dynamics. You see big deflectors mounted on PU truck cab pulling camping trailer? I used to pull 7000 lbs. 5th wheel with 3/4 ton PU with 7.2 liter V8 engine. At certain size it improced gas mileage. I did the experiment myself years ago. I don't tow any more. Sold the rig, built a cottage in the woods.
Another option might be a 'clear bra'. I think the one on my car is made of 3M film. Window tint shops can install or you could DIY.
