Hi all, what do most impreza turbo drivers run their tyres on? ie. v or w rating? (205/50/16) I understand the rating thing but what is the problem with running v rated? and what sort of speeds do they run to safely? thanks in advance. james.(edinburgh scotland uk)

It is not just the speed rating that's important. Each rating has to do with sidewall flexure and tread compound. You should stick with the speed rating that the manufacture put on the car. That way you retain the same handling characteristics with respect to safety. Most tire retailer will not put a lesser tire on your car for fear of a lawsuit since in most states it is illegal.
Do you have a list of states where speed ratings below that of what is supplied with a vehicle is illegal. All I can find is a law in Maine that may have been reversed recently. There are not many snow tires that carry a V, W, or Y rating. Also here in Illinois, the maximum speed limit is 65 m.p.h. so I would wonder how any state could require tires that exceed the maximum speed limit by double.
