no power in the power adapter

I have a 2001 Outback and my cigarette/power adapter has no power. The green LED that is behind it is working fine. I have removed the panel from the dashboard, but I have not figured out how to get the lighter out of the dashboard panel. Does anyone have any ideas on why its not working and how to remove it from the dash panel?

First, check the fuse for it which should be in the underdash fuse box. If that is good, the internal fuse in the lighter itself may be blown. In that case you need a new lighter.

Not to be a total idiot (which I am when it comes to fixing cars), but where is the underdash fuse box? I did look in t he user manual for fuses, but I didnt see any reference to it.

Thanks.

PS - I did figure out how to remove the lighter portion.

There are two fuse boxes, one under the driver side dash and one under the hood. I'm not sure exactly where yours is in the OB, but in my WRX it's behind the coin tray under the lower left dash. Pull the tray out and the fuses are behind that. Also IIRC there are other things on that circuit so if the fuse did blow you might notice something else not working.

Found it, in the same place as yours. Indeed the fuse was blown. Of course, I had every fuse type but 20, and had to go buy one, but the cigarette lighter is working now. The only other device on the circuit is "Remote controlled rear view mirrors" whatever that meant, and thats why I didnt notice most likely.

Thanks for the info.

Glad to see you got it working. The remote mirrors refers to the electric controls for the mirror adjustments, which you may or may not have on your car. Take a close look at whatever you have been plugging in there as the fuse didn't blow for no reason. There may be a physical problem with the power plug on one of your devices, or you may have tried to pull too much current from the lighter.
