A commone feature on modern AC units is a low pressure switch.I'm not sure, but Ithink it's on the "low" side of the system. Theswitch prevents the compressor from engaging when the system is toolow on refrigerant.When at rest, there is probably enough pressure to turn everything on(the 2 sides of the system will equalize after being off for awhile).As soon as the compressor engages, the pressure on the "low" side willdrop below the threshold value of the switch and the compressor willdisengage and the system will start to equalize again until the switchwill allow the compressor to engage again. If this is still underwarranty, I would contact a dealer. Good luck.....
