Stupidest Move Ever!!!

I sold my 97 Impreza to a friend over the summer. Well today he went to get tires installed. The car has the steels wheels with the hubcaps that cover the whole wheel. Well, the guy didn't notice the word Rotate with the little arrow symbol on the wheel so he pried the entire cap with the locking rings off of ALL 4 WHEELS!!!

This has to be the dumbest thing I ever heard. You would think that after the 1st one, he would have noticed. Well, they told my friend he could bring the car back and then leave it all day while they epoxy it back together. Yikes!

I haven't owned very many cars, but Subarus are the only ones I've ever encountered with the rotating caps. Most of the other car's caps just pry off.

One is definitely understandable. Even two, considering the circumstances. But all four? Yeah, I would catch on before then.

Some of the new GM cars use plastic lug nuts to hold the wheel covers on. Prying these off will destroy them as well.

My old 97 Plymouth Neon had hub caps that used the plastic lugs also.

I'd think so, too, but it doesn't seem to be that way! I've learned to pull the wheel covers off anything that has them before going to the tire shop. Might be an idea for your friend.

epoxy it? I'd force him them to buy new ones or discount the job for the cost of new ones.

Yeah, right. It's the rare tire shop that will accept responsibility for damage they've caused. =20

I've three tire shops destroy a total of six SmarTire pressure transmitters, some even after being told they were there and shown photographs of what they look like. Only one replaced it. =20 Two tried to hide the damage by reinstalling the strap over the broken transmitter, which eventually came loose. =20

=46or my next set of new tires, I'll install them myself with a manual tire machine.
