Subaru Outback - low ceiling - Legacy

May 21, 2005 7 Replies

I'm fairly tall. My mother owns the Subaru Outback with the sunroof, and the ceiling is too low for me. I used to drive a '98 Legacy with no sunroof and the height was fine. But there is a '02 Legacy for sale with a sunroof. Is it likely to give the same problem? I'll find out in the next few days anyways. --Tim923

How tall are you? I am a 6' tall woman, and the ceiling is fine, but when I put the seat far enough back, it's too far away from the steering wheel and I have long arms. I am driving an '02 Outback.

sunroof,

About the same height, 6 or 6'1. I can't remember the model year.

If you move the seat up to where your arms can reach comfortably, does your head touch anything. --Tim923

No, not even close, but my legs then are too squooshed. I have very long legs and very long arms. I just wish the steering wheel was telescoping.

Maybe, but I test drove a Forester and an Outback, and personally I thought the ride and comfort overall (other than the steering wheel issue which isn't that big a deal) was way nicer in an Outback. It was confirmed when I went out to Seattle to visit my brother. His wife drives a Forester. I rode around with her in it. I kept thinking how much nicer my Outback is.

sunroof,

I have a long torso and sit fairly tall. I've had problems with low ceilings in many cars. My new Subaru Legacy L wagon, which does NOT have a sunroof, doesn't present this problem to me. Perhaps the trick is to get a car without a sunroof.
