the case of the missing fuel filter?

My neighbor has a 2004 Outback 2.5L and it appears to be missing the fuel filter. Instead it has two "disc-like thingers". Now, the manual shows that this is what a "California" edition has, but the rest of the parts under the hood do not match this "california" edition... So the question remains, Where is the fuel filter? Are those disc-thingers the fuel filters?

Go to an auto parts store and ask to see a 2004 filter.

Some of the new Suub's do not have an external filter. Do not know which ones exactly, but if it's missing, its in the tank.

Making it a pain to replace! Thanks for the info though.

On vehicles with the in-tank filter the maintenance interval is much longer so you don't have to deal with it as frequently as the external type. It's 60K IIRC.

It's probably also about $120 US plus parts.
