Shotgun approach? Bad MAP, replace sensor.

Knowledgeable, informed, may cost more than the shotgun approach; Use appropriate scan tool, look at ECM and sensor readings, compare them to known "good" values and go from there. Gonna require info and tools.

Rubbed wires are an issue with modern GM junk.

I agree with Anumber1, that code means one of two things: a) bad sensor b) sensor o-ring damaged or missing. you can test this if you have a vacuum gauge, a voltmeter, access to a service manual, and some technical knowledge.

you will need to determine where the sensor is, and the wire colors (should be 4 wires). you can usually find this in the service manual. the service manual can be found online. (free or paid) next remove the sensor from the manifold (or wherever found) and hook up the vacuum gauge on the sensor side. next back probe the "signal" wire and connect to voltmeter. turn the ignition key to "on" but do not crank the engine. (engine off) and apply vacuum. the reading on the voltmeter should go down as you apply more vacuum.

this really isn't a small issue (when it comes to diagnosing) if you don't have the right tools. and buying the appropriate tools isn't that difficult if you can find a

store near by. the problem would be access to a service manual. you can always just buy the sensor and replace it and see if that helps...but that would be a temporary solution if it worked. you need to determine why your sensor failed (if it did) in the first place. It could be a number of things.

good luck.

What do the plugs look like?

,

Like a threaded hexagonal socket with a protruding porcelain tower on one end and an insulated electrode on the other, but that's not important right now.*

The engine misfires (map code p0106) then dies and won't restart until after many unsuccessful tries. ??? _______________________________________________________________

This sounds exactly like an intermittent failure in an ignition module. Check whatever provides the primary pulse to the ignition coil.

Good luck.

The 2.2 Colbalt engine use a coil on plug ignition. Seeing "what the plugs look like" will give you a clue to which cylinder is the problem...
