Bar codes on tires

I assumed those bar codes are a part of the automated manufacturing process. I hear some paronoid radio talk show host saying that in L.A. they have scanners placed at on and off ramps to track people and calculate speed, routes,. Etc. Etc.

I don't believe it but I am not sure it is a bad idea. I wouldn't mind if they were on every corner. If my child was snatched i would want to know were that M****** F***** is RIGHT NOW. Only those with something to hide would object. The slime of this world hide under the constitutional protections of the law abiding.

Yeah, right. They can't even get the bar code scanner at Kmart to read a label moving at 1mph past a scanner and someone is going to scan tires on the fly. Right.

And who is going to match a bar code indicating a product number with an individual.

Incorrect. Anyone concerned with the liberties our founding fathers fought for would object.

Perhaps. However, the founding fathers believed that tyranny was a worse alternative than a few folks of low morals slipping through the cracks. Perhaps you'd prefer to live in a place like Communist China where the government has more control.

It depends on the scanner manufacturer. I used to build POS systems and always used Symbol scanners. I could read a barcode from several FEET away with theirs.

Most of the hard time you have with reading barcodes from product are that the packaging is flexible and distorts the barcode, or it's just been damaged.

That being said, you've got both linear movement and rotational movement going on when a car is in motion. Don't know of many scanners that can keep up with that.

You're listening to too much TALK radio. I bet you hang on every word of Art Bell and George Nori as well. There are much easier ways to track cars then revolving bar codes on tires. And man will someday go back to the moon. We were not WARNED OFF by aliens on the dark side.

It's not like all cars on the roads had any identifying numbers attached to them in plain view...

Yep, all those suckers with On-star are being tracked as we speak. "You appear to be having trouble. May we call a tow truck for you ?" "We can unlock your doors form here"

Or the logical extension: "You appear to be speeding. We will now shut off your vehicle so that the police can come issue you a ticket".

All the joys of being tracked will become apparent when you finally have your microchip implanted. Then you can let Big Brother take care of you.
