Yeah, this is really disconcerting. However, a lot of the papers are also owned by big companies, or have merged with others.

The newspaper companies are also allowed to own radio and TV stations in the same market.
When I grew up, a couple of radio stations were owned by the newspaper, but this was because this arrangement was grandfathered in a long time ago (like long before I had an umbilical cord).

I dropped it when the introductory subscription ran out. For me, I can get so much on podcasts and listen to them in my car that I don't find the radio that useful.
When I catch up on my podcasts and get sick of my song library, then I will subscribe again,

The state of American 'news' right now is particularly sad, especially if you're a Conservative and can't *STAND* Fox's slant!
Truth be told, I don't want ANY 'slant'. Even the stalwart BBC has gone crazy (er, from a Neocon view...)
Often the same companies that own all the radio and TV stations, yes.
You can thank Reagan for eliminating the original duopoly laws, but since then just about every president from both parties has had some part in eliminating media ownership laws.
Notice what the past two decades of uncontrolled bank mergers has brought us to. Now, compare that with the media...

OK! Thanks, Ron!
It's interesting that TV 'news' covers Liberal agendas, while talk radio covers Conservative ones.
What do the Dems want? They've had TV in their pocket for years. Shoot, Cok-hed Roberts showed up in an Obama cheerleader outfit on Georgie's show one Sunday morning!
I will PAY to listen to radio when HELL freezes over. ANOTHER total waste of money, just like bottled water in most of Canada and the U.S..
Neither one covers either. Turn on the TV news and you'll hear a lot about children being kidnapped and the local murder, but you won't hear very much about any actual issues. Same with radio news.
For a really interesting exercise, watch ten minutes of your local news program, then watch ten minutes of an old Cronkite show on Youtube, one after the other.
I don't understand more than one or two words of this sentence. What does it mean?

I don't know what you're watching. I watch MTV News and I hear it...oh, wait, wrong persona.
NBC CBS and ABC have been cheerleading for Obama and Liberal causes for quite a while now. Perhaps you're a dyed in the wool Democrat and just can't feel it, since they're saying what you want to hear?
Pretty straightforward: Mainstream news champions Liberals and Democrats.
No, I don't see that at all. In order to cheerlead, you have to actually provide information, and I don't see them doing any of that. Again, watch current news, then watch Cronkite, one after the other, and see what has changed.

Do You Own A Pontiac?
Rest in Peace, Pontiac.
I have never owned a Pontiac before. cuhulin
LOL! Yes, there you are correct.
WATCH Cronkite?!?! I don't know how old you are, but I *REMEMBER* Cronkite, Lowell Thomas, Chet Huntley and David Brinkley; I also remember when Meet the Press MEANT The Press!
I hate to see Pontiac go away, but it's been for years only a shadow of it's former self. When car mfg make all the cars that look like the other mfg's models then why have different brands within the group. GM should stick with the GM brand and develop models under that name, drop the rest. Sorry Chevy, Buick, Cadillac, Pontiac, Saturn, what else....
Bring back Walter Winchell.
Some of those cars in the stores parking lots around here look so much alike, I can't tell which is which. One time I walked right up real close to one of those cars, I did not see a name on that new (or almost new) car at all.Even my girlfriend didn't know.It is like they are stamping them out with cookie cutters nowadays. cuhulin
Earlier in this thread I suggested watching, say, Headline News, or CBS or Fox News, and then comparing it with an old Cronkite broadcast off of Youtube.
I remember Cronkite and Mudd when they were still on the air, but I don't think until I did a direct comparison that I realized just how bad things had become. Admittedly I don't have a TV set so I am mostly insulated from the current TV news disaster.

I hate to tell you this, but I told you GM was going to pull the plug on Pontiac before the end of next year. They're not even going to have it as a niche brand. ;-)
