oil pressure sensor light blinks

I have a 1997 Chrysler Concorde 3.5 dual cam V6. Once in a while when idling the oil light blinks, just started doing it. My thoughts are to remove the oil pressure sensor and if possible screw in an oil pressure tester. I cannot locate the sensor and the Chilton manual also doesn't seem to show it. Does someone know where the oil pressure sensor is? Any other thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. Hope this only shows up once, because I keep getting an error when posting. Thanks Don

Don, Well, one thought would be that the sensor is working just fine, and your oil pressure is getting low! Is the oil level OK? How long since the last oil change? Any cause for oil breakdown or contamination (extreme service, trouble starting)? How many miles on the engine? Dan

You're on the right track, the sensors fail a lot more often than these engines actually develop low oil pressure. Even at very high mileage, they rarely get low on pressure.

I cannot locate the sensor and the Chilton manual

Check right down next to the oil filter. Screw-in sensor with a plastic locking 2-pin electrical plug.

It also depends on when the light blinks, too...a high milage engine, when really hot, at idle...a blinking oil pressure light is quite possibly *actual* low pressure.

If it blinks when you are driving down the expressway, however...

Other posters have suggested more likely causes, but if they don't lead to a solution, it could be an electrical problem. I had a '92 Plymouth Voyager in which the oil warning light would come on during left turns. It turned out that the wire from the pressure switch had worn against the body and was intermittently grounding.

9 times out of ten it is just a bad sender on these cars. If memory serves you will find it close to the oil filter. You can put a manual gauge on there and check the pressure but knowing the failure history on this sensor I would just replace first and ask questions if it keeps happening.
