Oldsmobile oil cooler.

Was going to get the trans. flushed on my wife's '99 Olds Aurora. 4.0L Northstar engine, 4T80 trans. According to alldata and the factory manual, the trans. oil cooler is in the right hand side of the radiator and the eng. oil cooler is in the left hand side. My radiator only has a cooler in the left hand side, nothing in the right. Jacked it up and followed the lines back to the trans. So the trans. cooler is definitely in the left hand side and no lines from anywhere going to the right. If there's any GM techs out there who've worked on these cars, does this engine even have an oil cooler? Is it the one that is a small water to oil heat exchanger bolted to the block like on the 3.4L DOHC engine? The factory manuals and alldata are both incorrect on this installation. Thanks for any help.

Garrett, the Northstar engines dropped the oil cooler for the engine in the later years. If you have no lines coming off the oil filter adapter then the engine is not equipped with an engine oil cooler. Even when they did have oil cooler lines, they were on the right side....you can't trust even the factory manuals at times. Especially the later ones.

Thanks, Ian. The factory manual was also totally wrong in it's graphics concerning replacement of the multifunction switch, too. Sad and frustrating, to say theleast, considering what you have to pay for them.
