My husband was talking and not paying attention to what he was doing...he had 1 1/2 gal of reg gas in his diesel truck before he realized it..then filled it on up with diesel...and drove it home...Just what kind of problem does he have on his hands now and what does he need to do to fix it? Thanks Penn

What kind of vehicle is this? More specifically, how big is the fuel tank? Less than 5% gas is probably no big deal and is sometimes done in cold climates. A diesel fuel lubricant additive might be a good idea.

Gas is really hard on the fuel injection components of modern diesels, especially common rail diesels. That amount of gas won't hurt an old diesel engine though, and indeed some were even designed to run on a gas/diesel mix in the winter.

So, it depends. ;) As Don mentions, some additive is in order, at the very least.

For additive read a quarter pint of engine oil. Otherwise the amount of petrol involved is of no consequence even for a common rail.

I wouldn't worry about it a great deal. For insurance, add a pint of engine oil to the tank to help lube the injectors. Refill the tank when it get below a half tank to further reduce the amount of gasoline in the system. Should be no further problem.
