My wife just bought a 2001 Focus with 2.0L Zetec motor. When it starts it makes one momentary sharp squeal that sounds like belt squeal....All is normal after that. Would this be belt slippage or could it be something else? If so, how do I stop it? Thanks

As a quick and dirty method of checking to see if it is a belt, *CAREFULLY* apply a bit of bar soap to the contact side of the belt(s). It washes off, but if it stops the squeal, it is the belt. Could also be any of the bearings along the belt path. Or something more obscure like a whistling power steering pump or such.
