Suzuki Vitara new engine installation / exchange

hello everyone,

I have a 2001 vitara 2.0 4zyl. and now the possibility to get a V6 2.5 very cheap (in really good conditions !), has anyone ever changed a

4zyl to a V6 ? if yes, do i have to change anything else besodes of the engine ? do i have to look for something special when i change the engine ?

i'm glad for any advise.

Is the V6 still installed in the other Vitara? If it is just a bare engine don't even bother to start. You would need a new wiring harness, computer, exhaust system, transmission is programmed different. Then plan on a different radiator and cooling fans also. In short there are VERY few parts that are even close to interchange between the two. With as much money as the swap will cost you it would be better to just find one with the V6 in it already.

Swapping a four cyl to a more powerful four cyl is usually easy enough. Swapping to an engine with a different number of cylinders can be a nightmare with port fuel injection. Mainly due to the wiring issue. The four cyl Vitara has 157 wires coming out of the ECM. The six cyl Grand Vitara has over 200. Presumably the ECM from the Grand Vitara controls other things that don't come on the four cyl model, like ABS, automatic transmission, etc.

I would say if you want that six cyl, you'd be better off trading your Vitara in for a Grand Vitara or its equivalent, the Chevy Tracker.
