2003 Sienna question

Jun 30, 2006 4 Replies

Hi:

Just bought a used 2003 Toyota Sienna.

When I turn on the ignition, prior to actually cranking the engine, I hear a

1-second humming noise from under the hood. I called the Toyota dealership service dept. from where I bought it and they tell me that it's coming from a little vacuum pump meant to clear out some fumes prior to or at ignition.

Any comments?

Thanks in advance,

AJ.

Most Toyota dealership service departments are pretty knowledgeable about Toyotas, and without hearing the sound myself, I would assume that the one you spoke to is correct.

Funny you mention that noise. I have the same thing on my 2000 Sienna.

The one in my 2000 Sienna goes kinda like this: WHOME Just louder and slower.

My guess is that the emissions control system is purging the charcoal canister.
