Certified cars

Looking at the prices for certified used cars there seems to be little difference in price between a year old certified and a new one. Other than the warranty, is there any advantage to buy the certified and is the price negotiable? Ron

If the price for a certified used car and a new is about the same, then other than the warranty, there is no advantage to buying a certified used vehicle, and the price is negotiable.

With all new and used cars, except for the few that are "hot" at the moment (like Priuses a year or more ago) the price is ALWAYS negotiable.) A salesman who doesn't get the question "would you take????" will surely think the customer is a wuss, or always pays sticker price.

Dig your heels in and prepare to get a lot of "my manager says that's impossible...." replies, but if you do their little dance for a couple of hours, and then start walking out (looking particularly disgusted at having wasted all your precious time) you'll often suddenly find the personnel rallying around you wanting to revise their numbers downward. It's a good way to think that you can earn $300 or $400 for an hour's work, frustrating as it may be.

Always buy certified used cars. That's the only way you can be sure that the car is really a used car.
