OT: Anybody going to McDonalds today?

I was just curious.

Don't eat too much, and think about those poor birds who give up their life for you.

Perhaps as an alternate to turkey a nice salad would do the trick?

Happy Thanksgiving.

How come no one ever says Happy Thanksgiving on the Canadian Thanksgiving Day?

And when is the British Thanksgiving Day? I always thought it was July 4th. GD&R.

Going to McD's?

It's too early to tell. We'll see when the turkey comes out of the oven ...

```````````````````````````````````Thanksgiving really is a harvest festival as far as its roots go - the older tradition was used to fit the Pilgrims' situation. AFAIK, was initially celebrated only in New England - & not all at the same time - different locales did it at different times, & wasn't made a nat'l. holiday w/ a set date until the mid 1800's - Abe Lincoln's time. A unification ploy (albeit a well-meaning one) during the Civil War? Cathy
When is it and I'll put it in my iCal and set up an alert.
According to the Canadian Parliament, the Canadian Thanksgiving is the Second Monday in October. It's right near Armistice Day, but they are separate holidays.
British Thanksgiving is not an official holiday as far as I know. July 4th is sort of a "tongue in cheek" thing.
I'm no "history" person but there is no Thanksgiving as such, from what i read you guys got the idea off our Easter holiday, which is an official holiday here on varying dates depending on the year.
Huh?? Thanksgiving idea from *Easter*? (Easter's a completely different ball of wax.) Thanksgiving (in the U.S. - I don't know they whys & wherefores of Canada's) is based on your harvest home festival, just tweaked to fit the Pilgrims' situation, & made a nat'l. holiday w/ a fixed date by Lincoln in the mid-1800's.
"Thanksgiving, or Thanksgiving Day, is an annual one-dayholiday to give thanks (traditionally to a God), for the things one hasat the close of the harvest season. In the United States, Thanksgivingis celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November, and in Canada it iscelebrated on the second Monday in October. In the United Kingdom,Thanksgiving is another name for the Harvest festival, held in churchesacross the country on a relevant Sunday to mark the end of the localharvest, though it is not thought of as a major event (compared toChristmas or Easter) as it is in North America, where this traditiontaken by early settlers became much more important. Other Europeancountries, such as Germany, also have harvest-thanks (Erntedank)celebrations which are perceived to be rather minor and mostly ruralholidays.[1]"
I see no need to return to McDonald's until they begin producing products that taste like food.
Don't like those artifical burgers heh. Well I've not been to Mac & Dons in several years and don't plan going either. When I was still working I had to travel a lot and at lunch time if there was a MD close I'd zip in get MacFeast burger and leave. Those weren't too bad but they pulled them off the menu, I guess they had too many veggies, LOL.
