You know what? If it was easy you'd end up wondering what you overlooked.
I do mine by hand, which is maybe why I'm still working on it. Not that it's hard to do, but I just have more interesting things I'd rather do. I wish they would have the flat tax and do away with all the blocks to fill out. Liars figure, but figures don't lie as someone once…

I'm working on mine. Seems a little more complicated then it should be. Why a person has to go this each year is pretty ridiculous. Everything is on computer these days, the IRS knows how much I made one way or the other, I don't have the inclination to learn the loopholes. I just want to pay my taxes and get on with life. I've tied up two weekends so far. I could hire an accountant but why should I have to pay someone just so I can pay the government? Besides, I'm a do it myself type of person. Looking at things in the last third maybe the last 20 or 10% of my life, it appears one way or the other the gov't or the lawyers or the medical system will wind up with it all anyway.

Liars figure, but figures don't lie as someone once told me.
Let's face it, folks, the complexity of the IRS Code is simply because it's the CPA Relief Act. If we ever went to a simplified tax form like - (How much did you earn? Take 15% of the figure. Send us a check for that
15%) There would be hundreds of thousands of H R Blocks, CPAs, Enrolled Agents and so on OUT OF WORK. It's a crime perpetrated by the govmint that makes poor working folks who have a W-2 and $250 in earnings interest go to a tax preparer and pay him XX dollars to fill out a simple return. Whenever you see a form from the government which is so complex you have to scratch your head over it and wonder what the hell it means, it means that they're consciously trying to make is hard to understand. And these days the IRS themselves is no help....if you can get thru to them on the phone, half the time the answer you get is dead wrong. Another way in which our government doesn't work.
I did mine - which is pretty uncomlicated, even when filing schedule A/ itemized deductions - in mid-late February. The federal return is okay in my case - doesn't get to me too much, but the NYS tax return...
For the last couple of years, instead of simply attaching one's perfectly good - & *right there* state portion of the W-2 form, NYS - for a reason which eludes me - now requires that a separate form be filled out instead of stapling the W-2 to the return. IOW - one has to copy down the exact same info that's on the W-2 - but it's not in the same sequence. Stupid busy work, AFAICT.
