In the news a couple or four months back, there was mention of an Iraq vet with head injuries resulting from a rocket exploding above him in a doorway. He was denied benefits because the military said his head injury wasn't the problem. No. He had a preexisting personality disorder. That's what your article makes me think of.

On a related note, scientists are learning that soldiers can receive brain injuries when bombs explode near their heads or chests, even if there is no apparent head injury. What some scientists feel is that the impact of the blast is somehow transmitted up the neck to brain, perhaps through the arteries, even thought there is no direct injury.
