Remember the 1960's? Sure there was turbulence, but there was also the Space Race. We were, as a nation, pushing ourselves to the limit. Seems like we've been sitting down since then. When are we going to get back to being the America that pushed forward into the unknown?
But now we're being run by the long-haired maggot-infested dope-smoking FM types. They're too busy enjoying "nature's leafy goodness" (I never heard shade leaf called nature's leafy goodness before.) to think about what we want to do in the next 10 years. Do we want to go back to the moon? Do we want to reach for Mars?
Is it any wonder we're driving Toyotas? Toyota knows where it wants to be in 10 years. GM seems to have lost its way. Ford hasn't been #1 since
1931. The Rest (Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep, etc) haven't been a big player since the Barracuda. American car makers have such a bad rep that even if they made something good, most of us wouldn't believe it. And we see the "Best Initial Quality" on some of them, and wonder just how fast that initial quality will fall apart.
C'mon. This is the nation that invented radio, television, transistors, and literally made the technology when none existed to allow direct long distance calling. The first 'long distance switches' were literally mechanical devices with metal 'routing cards'. We took technology and literally made it do double duty to get men into space. We literally crammed, shrunk, and minitureized to the best of our abilities to get the Apollo program to the moon on time.
BTW, Yesterday was the 60th anniversary of the North American Numbering Plan, i.e. Area Codes. Try to imagine making long distance calls without them, although it took fully until the 1970's to completely get everybody on the plan. Remember 40 cents to call the next town for 3 minutes? Now national long distance should be about one cent a minute or less.
