Sounds like a guy who longed to be a Boy Commando, but was afraid of getting ass shot off, or longed to make the scene with a gorgeous hooker, but was concerned about getting an STD. Sometimes you just can't have it both ways. Of course, being a politician is a wonderful occupation, unless your statements are archived and come back to bite you.

Those two quotes are not oposite of each other. One says "in many respects," and the other says "i was not planning to go." Chris Kelly needs a new hobby... like making model planes or something...

My dad is my model for this idea. He flew a TBF Avenger torpedo bomber in WWII, delivering gifts at the sides of Japanese ships, right into their AA fire. He doesn't say much about it, and he doesn't watch war movies.

We have a pilot friend who flew a Black Widow, and my father who was a ground-pounder in Sicily, northern Europe, and north Africa.

Neither talk at all about their "kills", etc.

About the only "bragging" my dad did was around 1963. He'd kept flying, just enough to keep a license, and for a business trip from Long Island to Baltimore, he decided to rent a 2 engine plane, and bring the family. I was

10, if I'm right about the year. To hear my mother tell the story, he brought the plane down to the point where the props were "touching the water". Probably not, but probably close, right over the Chesapeake Bay. After we landed, the one thing I remember most is extreme silence all the way to the hotel. The kind of silence only married people can create. :-)

To him, it was probably a walk in the park.

I never "longed" myself, but did volunteer because I was single. The AF sent me to Japan instead. That was a heck of an assignment. Romney apparently was just another one of those who spat on us back on those days.
