Clearly honest people can disagree.....so both Democrats and Republicans can vote their consciences and vote differently. However, I cannot imagine that all Republicans oppose the bill on grounds of conscience and most Democrats are for the bill because of their conscience. My state (NC) has one Republican and one Democrat Senator. It seems they should have the some collective opinion if they are truly trying to look after my best interests (or at least the best interest of the state as a whole).
The truth is, neither side is voting their conscience. They are both playing politics - nothing new here. Rather than fight it, the connected people will get in line and fight for their share of the pork. The rest of us will jsut have to grin and bear it.
I heard an interesting comment on CNN about stimulus bills. More or less the commentator was saying that Obama should look at the history of such bills. They have rarely if ever worked. Maybe this one will be different.....
