Separated accessory drive shaft. The Previa is mid-engined, with the engine sitting on its side under the front seats. Instead of a pulley on the front of the engine to drive the accessory belts, there is a short driveshaft that runs to the front of the vehicle under the hood to a pulley that drives a belt for the alternator, AC compressor, PS pump, etc.
Instead of a U-joint or CV joint, the SAD shaft has flexible rubber couplings at each end to allow the shaft to move.
