Well the greenies are off creating a new problem so that they can be the heroes (spelled like potatoes) of the world in a few years - replacing all incandescent bulbs with flourescent - which contain MERCURY. (George Bush signed legislation making it so.) The lefties will have created a whole new crisis and industry to fix it. Way to go.

I don't understand why the left is getting their panties in a bunch over lead solder. You know that the lead in solder is an alloy and doesn't leach out easily? That the minerals in water form a scale all over the inside of the pipe, sealing the pipe and joint further reducing the amount of lead that leaches out of the solder? That the solder isn't, or at least shouldn't be, in direct contact with the flowing water? That water flowing through copper pipe properly sealed with lead solder will have approximately the same ppm of lead as the ground water supply?
They got their panties in a bunch over lead alloy rifle, shotgun and pistol ammunition. Now bird hunters have to use steel shot that wears their barrels out faster than lead shot even though studies have proven that the lead in the alloy doesn't leach out.
It's past time that we started putting these idiots in their place. The enviro-wackos don't give one hoot about the environment, they're using their "CONCERN" to destroy western civilization. That is their goal.

Their motives go far beyond that. These idiots merely want it to be so prohibitively expensive to own guns and buy ammo, that the average person won't be able to afford them. Attrition, slow and sure, is their goal.
Next stop is banning all ammo THEY consider non-sporting, somehow "thinking" that the Second Amendment is about hunting.
Your problem could be too much heat or not enough cleanliness because I remember getting solder balls the first time I tried soldering pipes, and that was with tin-lead. All my lead-free has been tin- antimony, not because I think it's superior to tin-silver but because the antimony makes it so hard it's virtually impossible to confuse with tin-lead. I have no problems with just an ordinary propane torch (non-turbo), even in slight wind.
