well, if it's anything like my echo, it ought to be good. same drive train, nicer body. so far at 105,000+ miles, i had to replace the rt frt wheel bearing. the original brakes, etc. are still good. only oil, filters, tires being changed. sammm

Are the mpg figures Toyota claims on the Echo true?

i've got 41 mpg plus, on the last 5 tankloads.

in the winter, short trips i've got as little as 38 mpg. but thats short trips, warmup, etc. sammm

Wow

You think it would be cost effective to sell my 2000 Protege that gets 28 mpg to buy a new Yaris?

It depends on the cost of fuel where you are and how much you drive. My guess is that the fuel economy difference alone will not justify the need to buy a new Yaris, but it might justify buying a used Echo or used Yaris, if you happen to be someplace where the Yaris has been on sale for a while.

Wonder what it will get in town? I have a Honda CR-V 21 mpg in town don't drive on the freeway much looked at the Yaris, I tow a small trailer with my Honda maybe 2 times a year maybe 25 miles at the most no more than 500 lbs on trailer, don't think that the Yaris could handle that. Not sure that I would be happy downsizeing, the increase in gas mileage would be nice.

i haul a trailer occasionally and the echo does ok. when i'm hauling, i drive conservatively. i use 4th gear as top and stay out of fifth. again, mine's a 5 speed manual. sammm

Did you ask Toyota?

If towing and gas milage are your concerns, the towing capacity of a Corolla is 1500lbs and it gets almost the milage of a Yaris.
