Jealous? Don't be. The 300D is a '91, and I paid less for it than I would've paid for a new, bottom-of-the-line Hyundai. (It was a major score; it only had 58K miles on it when I bought it not quite two years ago.) The SDL is an '87, and I paid about three grand for it. In other words, BFD; they're just a couple of middle-aged cars that I happen to enjoy.

You know, it's funny; I've gotten this sort of response on Usenet on a number of occasions. Mention owning a Mercedes pretty much anywhere outside of alt.auto.mercedes, and I can count on someone making a smart-assed comment. My driving one obviously means so much more to other people than it does to me. The way I look at it, I only bought a couple of cars; I didn't buy into a lifestyle.

There; is your smoldering case of class resentment all better, now?

I wasn't funnin' ya for owning a Mercedes. I think they're great cars. Although I favor BMW.

I agree about the environmentalists. BTW - I was researching the whole wind farm thing. We have enough places around the U.S. where we can generate 5x the amount of energy U.S. uses. With payback of less than 3 years per each wind mill. Amazing stuff. I will post the link when I find it again.
