As some of you know, I'm at the Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas this weekend, and today was the first of the 4-day event. Yes, I'm a geek - you gotta problem with that? If so, don't read any further, or you'll be even more disgusted...
Two really significant things happened today for me - one Twilight-Zonish, and the other just plain sweet:
While I was waiting in the registration line, this guy walked past me. I looked quizzically at him, he did likewise at me, then I said, "You look *very* familiar to me." He said, "You look really familiar to me too!" I asked him if he'd been to other cons here, he said no. Then I asked if he had been in the military. Again, no. Then *he* said, "I'm from New Hampshire, maybe you saw me there?"
He was one of the patients of that nutty doc I'm always talking about in my emails! He was from Claremont, NH (Exactly where we lived), and I remembered that he was a postman there!
WHAT are the odds of us even *noticing* each other among those thousands of people!
He mentioned that he wondered where I'd gone, which is when I told him why we left there (Hubby went back into the Air Force), but I'm still stunned that I ran into him there!
Later, we saw the guy who played wheelchair-bound Captain Pike in "The Menagerie" (Actually the stunt double, since Jeff Hunter had died since the ep was filmed). I told him about how Bob absolutely loves that episode better than any other, and Bob had just returned from 'overseas' - I'm sure he thought Bob had been in Iraq or Afghanistan, but I didn't say where Bob went; I only told him that Bob had to skip the con, since he had only just arrived at his new base. Not only did I get a personalized pic from him (I paid for it, and he put a personalized msg on it), but Katie took a short video msg on her digcam, where he said, "Hi Captain Bob, from Captain Pike - thanks for serving our country so well!" Bob will absolutely *love* that! I can't wait to give him those things, among other fun I want to give him...
