02 Drivers Window Squeak

Jan 11, 2005 3 Replies

I notice what sounds like cellophane crackling next to my left ear while driving my 02 Camry LE. It eventually stops after driving for awhile. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a TSB?

Thanks in advance, Steve

Steve, I have been plagued with a very similar problem that the dealership fixed yesterday in my 04 Camry. The same noise by my ear quit when I applied pressure on the window so I thought something in the window mechanism was the cause. The mechanic pulled the plastic trim cover that covers the upper seat belt slot and we took a drive. Noise did not occur. He then applied a sound reduction fabric over the metal tabs that hold the trim piece in place (5 minute job) and sent me on my way. I put about 65 miles on the car today and no noise or "crackle" so far. He didn't admit it but I get the feeling he has encountered this problem many times before. Hope this helps. Bob

Bob - this happens exactly. If I use my elbow to gently push the top corner of the window (near my ear), it stops. So, I was thinking the glass is vibrating within the rubber channel.

Bob - I have noticed that that piece sometimes makes a little noise, too.

Please keep me posted as to how the fix works. I've been living with this for years as the dealer does not notice it.

Steve

I had a crackling noise coming from my 02 Camry since I bought it new. I took it to Toyota three times and they could never fix it. I finally fixed it myself by removing wipers, removing plastic cowling, and taping the fork-like fasteners with masking tape.
