I would like a reply or two from someone like MD Tech and Philip and also, of course, anyone else that may have experienced this with their
2001 Camry LE V6's.
Twice I have needed a sudden spurt of acceleration while making a left or right turn. Twice the car has just sat there like it couldn't figure out what to do.
The first time this happened I was making a left turn from a busy main road turning left into my housing tract. I had to mash down on the accelerator when I started to cross the street to avoid 2 cars racing and coming directly at me at a VERY high rate of speed. The car just crawled and no matter what position the accelerator was in it made no difference the car was just crawling across the street with the two drag racers heading right at me. I finally let up completely off the accelerator and gingerly reapplied the accelerator in a more gentle manner and the car crossed the street like I expected.
The second time this happened I was making a right turn onto a busy street from a parking lot. I went to pull into the right lane from the lot and again masdhed the accelerator somewhat aggressively to avoid an oncoming car in the right hand lane. Again the car just sat there with me committed to my right hand turn in the lane. Again I almost got creamed.
I bought this car brand new. The first incident happened aboyt a year after owning the car. I took the car in to have it diagnosed at the dealer and got the car back that it was operating to factory specs.
The second incidence I again took the car in for diagnosis and fix and AGAIN got the car back as operating to factory specs.
This really concerns me as I now feel I cannot trust the car in an emergency. Has anybody else had this situation?
