2002 Camry-4 Automatic

I just had my Camry in for a front end alignment .yes, it was wandering a bit.

I just wanted a front wheel alignment but they said I needed a 4 wheel alignment because of the independant rear suspension as opposed to a solid axle as per the Corrola.

As it turned out the left rear wheel and the left front was out a bit (lots of unavoidable potholes this year.)

According to the printout I got the right side was ok.

The alignment cost me $99.95 Canadian ..........Im in Ontario.

And yes the car handles much better now .

The question I have is : Is a rear wheel alignment really neccessary?

I have been driving autos and working on them myself for 60 years and this is the FIRST time I ever heard of a rear wheel alignment problem .

At first I thought it was another gimmick to fleece the customer ? Am I right or wrong here ?

Any comments are sincerely appreciated and TIA.

I think the cambers and casters are no longer adjustable. however, toe- ins front and rear should be. So yes, with 4-wheel indep suspension you need a 4-wheel alignment.

In the US we can find shops for about $60 on a good Hunter alignment machine. should be recently calibrated.
